We help the world’s largest corporations, financial institutions and governments overcome their most complex challenges.

What we do

At Freshfields you might be working on the biggest ever M&A deal of its type, award-winning multi-billion-pound litigation or helping moves towards ‘Industry 4.0’. Many of these matters are complicated, crossing multiple geographical borders and practice groups, so teamwork is at the core of our culture.

Our work tends to fall into three broad categories, which we like to think of as grow, strengthen and defend:

  1. Grow

By grow we mean transactional work – buying and selling, ranging from stock market flotations to big-ticket M&A deals.

  2. Strengthen

By strengthen we mean regulatory work from financial services regulation to combating bribery and corruption.

  3. Defend

By defend we mean risk management and disputes work to help protect businesses and reputations – litigation, arbitration and handling major global investigations.

These three types of services match up to the three compulsory seats for trainees, in our corporate, dispute resolution and finance teams. Of course, you’re probably not sure which of these areas interests you most. Don’t worry – not many people do at this stage. Our eight-seat training contract offers plenty of opportunities to specialise in these or one of our many other areas of law. For a taster, apply to join one of our workshops or vacation schemes.
