We put continuous improvement principles at the heart of the LSC

Legal Services Centre

As the legal industry is driven by rapid, transformative change, our Legal Services Centre (LSC) offers graduates an alternative career in law, with a number of legal service assistant opportunities.

The LSC is a crucial part of Freshfields’ innovation strategy, helping us to improve our client service and makes our output more efficient. Based primarily at the Freshfields Global Centre in Manchester (with teams in Germany and Hong Kong), the LSC carries out a range of tasks across all our practice areas – from document reviews to due diligence, non-disclosure agreements to verification – in multiple languages.

Every day, our legal support assistants (or LSAs) undertake challenging work for some of the world’s biggest businesses on some of their most important matters. That doesn’t mean just locally supporting our lawyers on routine admin and filing; as an LSA you’re given real responsibility. And it’s not just LSAs – we have roles in tech, product development and quality assurance.

We put continuous improvement principles at the heart of the LSC: LSAs are encouraged to suggest improvements and you will be using the latest legal technology, including AI.

As a Freshfields LSA you could:

  • advise the world’s biggest businesses;
  • be seconded abroad;
  • use cutting-edge tech, including AI;
  • build high-value specialisms;
  • learn from the best lawyers; and
  • work for a truly responsible business.

London trainee secondments to the LSC

For the first time, London trainees can experience the LSC’s pioneering work with a six-month secondment working in Manchester with the potential of a short placement in one of the Continental Europe LSC sites for a number of weeks towards the end of the secondment.

The trainee secondee will lead on projects delivered out of the LSC, working alongside the Work Allocation, Quality Assurance and Product Development team at all times.

Among the varied responsibilities, you could be working very closely with the legal tech team on project delivery and governance using legal tech. That means:

  • testing, evaluating, developing, deploying legal tech tools in the firm; and
  • operating, training and promoting legal tech to both our lawyers and our clients.

You would also be collaborating with our LSC 2.0 project team, recently formed to help grow the LSC globally. You will also have plenty of chances to get involved with local responsible business activities.
