Salary and benefits

Lawyers enjoying lunch in Freshfields canteen

We pay trainees £43,000 salary in the first year, rising to £48,000 in the second year – and the benefits start before you join us, with support through law school.

Before you arrive at Freshfields

When you’re at law school, we’ll pay all your tuition and examination fees for the graduate diploma in law (GDL) and legal practice course (LPC).

We’ll also pay living expenses of £7,250 for the GDL and £7,000 for the LPC (pro rata if you’ve already started the course when you accept our offer).

We offer a discretionary grant of £500 to £2,000, which you can use to gain language skills – always useful at an international firm – or to support you while you’re doing voluntary work.

We also offer support on a discretionary basis for future trainees from less advantaged backgrounds.

After you join us
