We put continuous improvement principles at the heart of the Freshfields Hub.

The Freshfields Hub

As the legal industry is driven by rapid, transformative change, the Freshfields Hub offers graduates an alternative career in law, with a number of opportunities to work with cutting-edge legal technology to help us deliver legal solutions to our clients.

The Freshfields Hub is a crucial part of our innovation strategy, helping us to ensure that we deliver legal solutions to our clients as efficiently and creatively as we can. Based across six locations in the UK, Continental Europe and Asia, the Hub applies cutting-edge tools (including document automation and AI) to tasks such as due diligence, document review, regulatory surveys, contract production, antitrust and competition law analysis and research. It operates across time zones in more than 30 languages.

Every day, legal solutions specialists (LSSs) undertake challenging work for some of the world’s biggest businesses on some of their most important matters. They do this hand in hand with lawyers around our network, forming part of the broader teams servicing our clients. That doesn’t mean just locally supporting our lawyers on routine admin and filing; as a LSS you’re given real responsibility. The Hub also has specialist roles in technology, product development and quality assurance.

Each year, the Hub location in Manchester takes on around 10–20 graduates with an interest in legal technology, as an alternative to our London-based training contract.

We put continuous improvement principles at the heart of the Freshfields Hub: our teams are encouraged to suggest improvements and you will be using the latest legal technology, including AI.

As a Freshfields LSS you will learn from the best lawyers and work for a responsible business.

You could:

  • advise the world’s biggest businesses;
  • be seconded abroad or to a client;
  • use cutting-edge technology, including AI; and
  • build high-value specialisms.

London trainee secondments to the Freshfields Hub

London trainees can experience the Hub’s pioneering work first-hand with a six-month secondment working in its Manchester location, including a short placement in one of the Hub sites in Continental Europe towards the end of the secondment.

Our trainee secondees work on live client projects that are being delivered out of the Hub, providing guidance and support to the LSSs and working closely with our Hub associates.

They also work very closely with the legal technology team on project delivery, and get a real insight into how legal technology and automation is changing our business. That means:

  • testing, evaluating, developing and deploying legal technology tools in the firm; and
  • operating, training and promoting legal technology to both our lawyers and our clients.
